Geoffrey Kongo Githinji

Geoffrey Kongo Githinji is a Technical Officer Consultant and Disease Modeller at IMACS, with over seven years of experience across clinical medicine, field epidemiology, and mathematical modelling of climate-sensitive infectious diseases in Kenya and the wider East African region. His expertise spans climate-informed disease surveillance, geospatial analytics, R-based analytics pipelines, and infectious disease intervention modelling and Infectious disease epidemiology. Throughout his career, Geoffrey has worked with Kenya’s Ministry of Health, the National Malaria Control Programme, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), and at the Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Nairobi, leading outbreak investigations, surveillance system evaluations, and sub-national malaria intervention modelling. He is first author on a peer-reviewed Malaria Journal publication (2024) on outbreak detection using routine surveillance data in Kenya.

Alongside his IMACS engagement, Geoffrey serves as Research Fellow at CEMA, University of Nairobi, in partnership with Swiss TPH, supporting Kenya’s National Malaria Control Programme in developing its Global Fund Cycle 8 evidence base. He has built sub-national malaria analytics pipelines across all 47 Kenyan counties and 304 sub-counties, integrating CHIRPS climate data with KHIS routine surveillance, and has co-delivered mathematical modelling capacity-strengthening workshops for ministry and partner audiences.

He holds an MSc in Modelling for Global Health from the University of Oxford (MGH Global Future Leaders Award recipient), an MSc in Field Epidemiology from Moi University through the Kenya Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme, and an MBChB from Kampala International University. He is fluent in English and Kiswahili.
