Mohamed Alpha Kamara

Mohamed Alpha Kamara is the IMACS Technical Lead consultant, with over eight years of experience designing, deploying, and transferring AI-driven early warning systems across Sub-Saharan African health systems. His expertise spans climate-informed disease surveillance, geospatial analytics, machine learning, and digital health architecture, anchored by six years embedded within Sierra Leone’s National Malaria Control Programme. Throughout his career, Mohamed has worked with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, the World Health Organization, the Global Fund, the African Development Bank, and Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health, leading the design and deployment of national health surveillance platforms, climate-integrated predictive models, and large-scale data infrastructure. He served as Principal Investigator on Sierra Leone’s first National Malaria Surveillance System Assessment, with findings adopted into the country’s 2025-2030 National Malaria Strategic Plan and an eight million dollar Global Fund grant renewal.

Mohamed has led multidisciplinary technical teams, facilitated high-level stakeholder engagement with ministries of health and international partners, and built sustained institutional capacity by training over one hundred government technical staff across surveillance data systems and quality frameworks. His experience spans the full programme lifecycle, from system design and field deployment through documentation and structured government handover. He holds a Master of Professional Studies in Machine Learning and Health Data Analytics from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College. He is fluent in English and Krio, with professional working proficiency in French.
